Certification

Anyone interested in officiating can attend a Level 1 clinic to become a certified official. A notice may be placed in a local newspaper or announced at a local high school. Once enough individuals have shown an interest in attending, a date is picked for the clinic (usually a Friday evening and all day Saturday). Participants are required to purchase a rulebook and the Level 1 manual (the cost is included in the clinic fee). Attendance for the whole clinic is mandatory. The clinic covers the complete rulebook as well as the mechanics for 1st and 2nd officials. At the end of the clinic all candidates are required to write an open book test on the rules. A pass mark of 90% must be attained. Upon successfully completing the theory clinic and the written test, all candidates must pass a practical evaluation. This will be scheduled through the Zone Assigning Officer. Upon successfully completing the practical evaluation all candidates will receive their crests and cards (the cost of which is included in your clinic fee). Candidates are now registered local officials with Volleyball New Brunswick and are expected to follow the dress code and adhere to the code of ethics.

The theory portion of the clinic is held on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Candidates are given Level 2 manual (the cost is included in the clinic fee). Attendance for the whole clinic is mandatory. At the end of the clinic all candidates are required to write a closed book test on the rules. A pass mark of 90% must be attained.
