Volleyball New Brunswick Annual General Meeting Highlights and Annual Service Awards Winners

On Saturday September 19th, Volleyball New Brunswick inducted Olympian Marc Albert (Caraquet), Perley Tozer (Miramichi) and Rex Boldon (Fredericton) into their Hall of Fame during the Recognition Evening at the Sainte-Anne Community Centre. VNB also presented its Major Award Winners.
Official of the Year – Mark Goldsmith (Saint John) Mark has been officiating for quite some time that currently holds a Level 3 certification as he officiates at both the ACAA and high school levels. He just recently officiated at the Canada Summer Games in PEI this past August. Mark also gives back to the officiation community in Greater Saint John as he conducts numerous referee clinics. He has officiated at the Canadian West Open in Calgary the past two years and worked the Canadian East Open in Moncton for the past four years.
Volunteer of the Year – Jack Campbell (Fredericton) Jack is the Zone 3 (Capital Region) referee assigning officer and dedicated lots of his time assigning school and club volleyball in one of the most active regions of the province. He spends much of his time being a Referee Supervisor and also actively teaches young officials the art of refereeing. Jack spends much of his time organizing, processing and handling the payment of officials across the province as the Treasurer of the VNB Officials Association. He also was the VNB Officials representative on the UNB CIS Women’s Nationals Championship Host Committee for the past two years.
Coach of the Year – Cherie Campbell (Fredericton) Cherie coached the Women’s Beach Volleyball Canada Games Team who finished in 6th place - very strong showing as the team was in the running throughout the week of the Canada Games where Team NB defeated during round robin play the eventual champions from British Columbia and also played a tight match with Ontario, who claimed the bronze medal. Cherie also assisted with the VNB Beach Tour extensively and helped coach our youth at the tournaments – also took the time to teach them to officiate and improve their overall game
Male Athlete of the Year – Mathieu Losier (Fredericton) Mathieu Losier is a member of the Castors Volleyball Club and Ecole Sainte-Anne junior varsity volleyball team who captured their respective provincial championships. During the VNB Beach Tour, he and his partner Michael Leblanc won the 16U Male Atlantic Beach Championships and was the Youth Beach Tour Player of the Year. The pairing traveled to the Volleyball Canada Beach National Championships in Toronto. He also spent the summer as the starting setter of the 16U Elite Team NB at the Eastern Elite Championships where he was named a Tournament All-Star
Female Athlete of the Year - Jill Blanchard (Saint John) Jill has completed 3 years with the UNB Varsity Reds where she was named to the 2008-2009 First Team All-Stars for the AUS Conference. She was selected to the Volleyball Canada National Beach Team for the 2009 summer season as well as selected to represent Team NB at Canada Games in PEI with partner Hilary Cummings. This duo, captured the Senior Beach Atlantic Championships in Shediac. At Canada Games, the team defeated the eventual champions British Columbia in round robin play and fell to Ontario in a close 3-set match to be in close contention. The team finished 6th at Canada Games, which is the best finish by Team NB Women’s Beach Volleyball. Jill was also selected to represent Team NB-Canada at the World Francophonie Games in Beirut, Lebanon with partner Cherie Campbell. This duo competed at the Senior Beach Nationals, where they finished 9th overall in Division 1 Tier 1. She will be competing in Lebanon September 27 to October 5.

- Elaine Hayes (Fredericton) was re-elected to the position of Treasurer for the 2009-2011 term - Monica Hitchcock (Saint John) was re-elected to the position of Vice-President for the 2009-2011 term - Volleyball New Brunswick gave special recognition to the Canada Games coaching staff – John Richard, Monette Boudreau-Carroll, Pauline Cormier (Women’s Indoor Volleyball Team Staff), Darcy McKillop, Zach Van Thournout, Bernie Fontaine (Men’s Indoor Volleyball Team Staff), Corey Akerley, Cherie Campbell (Beach Volleyball Team Staff), Alex O’Donnell (Canada Games Coaching consultant and Francophonie Games Team Staff). - Volleyball New Brunswick approved membership fee increases for the 2010-2011 season effective September 1, 2010: o Youth and Beach Competitive Membership fees will be $35 VNB Fee and $20 Volleyball Canada fee. o Senior Competitive Membership fees will be $40 VNB Fee o Provincial Championships Entry Fee for 14U will be $175 o Provincial Championships Entry Fee for 15U/16U/17U/18U will be $275 o Provincial Championships Entry Fee for Senior will be $300
