Volleyball New Brunswick Hall of Fame to add Perley Tozer, Rex Boldon and Olympian Marc Albert during the Annual Fall Conference weekend.

Volleyball New Brunswick will honour its past during the Annual Fall Conference in Fredericton at the Sainte-Anne Community Centre on September 19th. The Annual General Meeting will take place during the afternoon and will turn to the Recognition Evening to celebrate the volleyball year’s achievements with the VNB Service Awards and relive the past with the VNB Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The Meet and Greet will begin at 6:30pm at the Builder’s Gallery at the Sainte-Anne Community Centre and the ceremonies get underway at 7:00pm

This year, Volleyball New Brunswick will induct Fredericton’s Rex Boldon, Miramichi’s Perley Tozer and Caraquet’s Marc Albert.

Rex Boldon (Fredericton)

Rex started his career playing Junior High volleyball in 1967 and was a member of the Oromoco High School Provincial Championship teams of 1969 to 1973. Rex competed at the 1971 Canada Games and was scouted by the Canadian Volleyball Association and was selected to train with the National Junior Team in 1972. From 1972 until 1975, he was a member of the Fredericton Junction Piranhas with other VNB Hall of Fame members. His accomplishments include being named to Senior Nationals All-Star Team in 1976, MVP of the Senior Atlantic Championships in 1977 and Silver Medalist and All-Star at the Eastern Canadian Senior Championships in 1986. He was selected as the Head Coach of the UNB Red Rebels for the 1983-1984 season and was the VNB Senior Men’s League Coordinator from 1986 to 1990.as well as being a founding member of the Reds Volleyball Club. Rex also coached his sons through their 16U and 18U careers from 2001-2004. In 2004 he coached Team NB at the National Team Challenge Cup and led the same roster at the 2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina. Throughout his playing and coaching career, Rex has participated in 15 National Championships and won numerous Senior Provincial Championships.

Perley Tozer (Miramichi)

Perley Tozer began his coaching career at Sunbury West Junior High School from 1971 to 1974 and moved to Newcastle (now Miramichi) in 1974 to take over the Miramichi Valley High School volleyball program. He co-founded the Newcastle Volleyball Club during his tenure at Miramichi Valley Volleyball Club. Perley led Team New Brunswick at the 1979 Canada Winter Games in Brandon Manitoba and was named an assistant coach at the University of New Brunswick for the 1979-1980 season. Perley undertook many coaching development opportunities such as training at York University in Toronto (1975), Concordia University in Montreal (1976), the National Volleyball Institute in Moscow of the former USSR (1978), Université de Sherbrooke (1981), the University of Saskatoon in Saskatoon (1982) as well as at the Chestnut Inn in Fredericton under Malcolm Early and Sonny Phillips in 1980.
Perley trained under many successful coaches such as: Lorne Sawula, former Canadian Women’s National Team Coach; Moo Park, former Canadian Men’s National Team Coach; Bill Neville, former American Men’s National Team Coach; and Doug Beals,former American Women’s National Team Coach. The highlight of Perley’s coaching career was when he was selected as a member of the Canadian National Team Staff for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow that were unfortunately boycotted by the Western World.

Marc Albert (Caraquet)

Marc Albert started playing volleyball in Grade 10 at Polyvalente Louis-Mailloux in Caraquet where he played three seasons, leading the team to the High School AA Provincial Championship in 1978 and AAA High School Provincial Championship in 1979. Marc then joined the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus for the 1979-1980 and 1980-1981 campaigns. Marc was named to the Canadian National Junior Team in 1980 and 1981 where Team Canada won silver at the NORCECA Conference Championships and 12th at the World Championships. Marc was then selected to the National Senior team in 1982 and 1985, where Team Canada finished 2nd at the NORCECA Conference Championships. He then moved to Calgary to play with the “Older but Wiser” Volleyball Club from 1982 to 1987 that captured 2 Canadian National championships (1983, 1985). Marc returned to the National Senior Team from 1989 to 1992 as the starting Power Hitter for Team Canada during which time, the team captured Silver and Bronze Medals at the NORCECA Conference Championships, 13th and 10th at the World Championships, 10th and 6th in FIVB World League. Marc competed with Team Canada at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympic Games where Team Canada finished 10th. During his playing career he won numerous all-star awards and competed in over 40 countries. Marc returned to New Brunswick to play Senior from 1995 to 2002 and also coached at Moncton High School as well as many club teams, as well as within the VNB Provincial team Program.
